Cycle Link Open

A new cycle bridge is open for use and proving very popular with people cycling between the city centre and West Cambridge, along the Coton Footpath.

The bridge has been built as part of the University's Park and Cycle scheme, enabling cycle access to Clerk Maxwell Road and Madingley Road from the Coton Footpath. Cycle access to the Cavendish Laboratory has also been improved.

The Coton Footpath will be upgraded during the summer 2001 as part of the West Cambridge Site development.

Approximately 660 metres of path will be altered to provide a three metre wide cycle path and two metre wide footpath from the Adams Road/Wilberforce Road junction to a point that will connect into the new bridge and the proposed East Forum.

The pavement will be swapped from the south side to the north side, surfaces will be upgraded and signs and lighting provided.

Building work on the West Cambridge Site has progressed rapidly over the summer with the Computer Laboratory at roof level and the Microsoft building emerging out of the ground. The Merton Hall Farm outbuildings have been cleared, as part of the access road improvement works, and the Park and Cycle scheme is scheduled to open in the New Year.
