Sidney Sussex College will host an extraordinary charity dinner on Thursday, February 3, 2011, but you are only invited if your name is Tom, Thomas or Tommy.

The dinner is being held to raise funds for Tommy’s baby charity.

The organisation was established in 1992 and funds three research centres in the UK: St Thomas' in London, St Mary’s in Manchester and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.

The charity works with mother and babies who experience difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth. It conducts high quality research into related problems and provides information to parents. It also raises awareness of existing pregnancy problems and provides free, accurate and up-to-date information for medical professionals.

This includes a dedicated telephone midwife service, a comprehensive website and free books and leaflets dedicated to promoting health in pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.

The organisation believes that every parent has the right to a healthy pregnancy and baby. Its target is to halve the number of babies that die during pregnancy or birth by 2030.

Organiser Tom Davenport is hoping to raise more than £500 for the charity and get more than 100 Toms together on February 3.

He said: "This is a truly unique event in aid of a very special charity. It is our hope that the novelty of the first same-name fundraiser in Cambridge will be matched by the contribution we are able to make to Tommy's charity. It promises to be an effective and entertaining format."

Tom’s Formal Hall will take place at Sidney Sussex College on February 3, 2011, at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £20 and the dress code is black tie, strictly for those named Thomas, Tom or Tommy only!
