One of the University’s leading student theatre companies will perform preview performances of the Shakespearean comedy ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ in the surroundings of Sidney Sussex College over this August Bank Holiday weekend before they embark on a 3,500 mile trip across the Atlantic.

Cambridge American Stage Tour (CAST) will be celebrating its 10th anniversary by performing in twelve different venues across the United States from Massachusetts to Virginia; Florida to Pennsylvania. For the first time, the group will be stopping off in the Carolinas and Georgia on the South East coast as part of their month long tour schedule. The tour will celebrate the University of Cambridge’s 800th Anniversary and will be the biggest in the company’s history.

Students, directors, designers and technicians from the University of Cambridge will cover 3500 miles on the tour, which will encompass 25 performances.

Set in Italy, ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ is a carefree story following the journeys of characters ‘Proteus’ and ‘Valentine’ as they experience being young, confused and in love. The play is set to be CAST’s best performance yet and is suitable for all the family.

On returning from their tour, CAST’s ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ will feature as the first “MainShow” of the Michaelmas Term at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge from Tuesday 6th October 2009 to Saturday 10th October 2009. Performances from the 6th to the 10th will be at 7.45pm with an extra matinée performance at 2:30pm on 10th October.
