Students, parents and advisers from around the country will be arriving in Cambridge today for the first series of short ‘Information Visits’ to be organised by the University.

The days are intended to provide an insight into the University for students from years 11, 12 and 13. The aim is to dispel the myths that surround applying to and studying at Cambridge and to convey the message that students from all backgrounds can thrive at the University.

Janet Graham, Head of the Cambridge Admissions Office, believes that this new initiative is something that potential students welcome,

"The feedback we received from our other activities showed us that there was a need for a short ‘Information Visit’ which provided a general introduction to the University and Colleges. The visits are particularly helpful for pupils from schools and colleges with little experience of sending students to Cambridge."

Students and parents will be given a tour of the University and a number of Colleges and will have the chance to ask questions of admissions tutors and current undergraduates. Students who would like a more in-depth look at living and studying at the University will be encouraged to attend a College open day.

The short information visits are taking place at 11.00am and 2.00pm today. Further visits will be taking place on Tuesday 24 September, again at 11.00am and 2.00pm. College Open Days are organised throughout September and again from March 2003.
