Among the more serious events on offer in the Gilmour Building will be displays of around one hundred apple varieties. Visitors can have their own mystery apples identified by experts if they bring in a fruit, preferably with stalk and leaf too. There will also be advice about purchasing, pruning and propagating; displays of ornamental varieties and information about current scientific research.

One of the beautiful botanical illustrations that will be on display in the Gilmour Building for Apple Day.

In the Marquee there is a more light-hearted tone, with the chance to taste and purchase a huge variety of fruits, juices and ciders. Children will be able to create their own Apple Day badges. And a huge range of stalls and displays will feature all kinds of apple goodies, from pies to books and cards.

Apple Day takes place on Sunday, 31 October from 10am - 4pm, at Cambridge University Botanic Garden, Bateman Street. For more information call the Education Office: (3)31875/6.
