The Royal Geographical Society's Gill Memorial Award has been presented to Dr Charlotte Lemanski for early career achievement in the field of urban geography.
At the Royal Geographical Society award ceremony, Dr Lemanski, a lecturer in the Department of Geography and a Fellow of Robinson College, was praised for her extension publications addressing issues related to everyday urban inequality, particularly housing and segregation, in the global south.
In addition, her dedication as a colleague and a teacher were highly commended.
Dr Lemanski was also recently awarded a prize by the prestigious Urban Studies journal for authoring the journal's best paper of 2014. This paper, entitled “Hybrid gentrification in South Africa: Theorising across southern and northern cities” was published in the November 2014 issue, Volume 51(14), pp. 2943-2960.

The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is the UK's learned society and professional body for geography, founded in 1830. They support and promote geographical research, education, fieldwork and expeditions, and geography in society, as well as advising on policy issues and supporting professional accreditation.
