Professor Phil Allmendinger, Head of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, joins the Greater Cambridge City Deal board.

The University today announced the appointment of Professor Phil Allmendinger as its permanent representative to the City Deal Board.

He is Head of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor of Land Economy and a member of the University’s General Board, the body responsible for the academic activities of the University’s Faculties, Departments and Schools. 

Professor Allmendinger is one of the world’s leading planning theorists whose work has strong links to policy and practice in the UK and elsewhere, in addition to being a Chartered Town Planner and Chartered Surveyor. He has advised successive governments on planning, housing and development issues. Prior to his academic career Professor Allmendinger worked for five years in local government.

He brings more than 25 years of planning experience and academic expertise in urban development, housing, and planning to his new role on the City Deal board.  

Professor Allmendinger said: “I am delighted to be taking forward the University’s representation on the City Deal at a time when it is critical Greater Cambridge secures the transport, housing and skills it needs to continue growing, while protecting the features that make it a good place to live, study and work.

“I look forward to working with our City Deal partners in the period ahead.”
