Working with the University

With over 4,000 academics in more than 100 Departments, Faculties and Schools, the University contains a wealth of expertise.

The Research Office offers companies an informed entry point into the University. With a team of Partnership Development Managers, each dedicated to a particular industry sector, the Research Office can help potential partners define their interests, find the appropriate academic expertise, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

The Research Office also supports the development of relationships between academics and industry, whether these result in major multi-faceted collaborations with global companies or simply in finding experts for specific one-off projects.

As prospects approach realisation and require detailed negotiations, the Research Office can draw up contracts covering areas such as intellectual property and confidentiality.

Institute for Manufacturing

The Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) carries out collaborative research with industrial partners, focusing on manufacturing themes. There is scope for interaction with all sizes of company, ranging from global multinationals to small organisations. The IfM also encourages sponsorship of student projects, giving students first-hand experience of work in a 'real-world' manufacturing environment, and providing companies with input from students of the highest calibre.

Industrial Liaison Units

A number of Departments have dedicated industrial liaison units.
