Commercialising University Science
Cambridge Enterprise exists to enhance the University's contribution to society through knowledge transfer from the University, and welcomes contact from companies who are interested in licensing technology developed by the University's researchers. It also provides Consultancy Services for University staff wishing to provide expert advice to private and public sector organisations, and access to capital and expertise via Cambridge Enterprise Seed Funds.
Cambridge Enterprise works with companies on an individual basis to identify specific areas of interest, then brings relevant inventions and technology from their portfolio to the company's attention.
Technology is usually at an early stage, and will normally require substantial development by the licensing company before a commercial product is ready for market. For this reason, the best contact from the company is usually someone who is knowledgeable about the company's science and technology and is also familiar with the company's long-term strategic plans.
Cambridge Enterprise works with experienced lawyers in the University's Legal Services Office to provide advice on copyright issues and to promote the effective commercialisation of copyright works (such as computer software). In addition, both Cambridge Enterprise and the Legal Services Office have many years of experience in dealing with Intellectual Property issues.
