Photo Competition 2011/12
Cambridge Student Life: More than just punting?
Thanks to those who have submitted entries to our photo competition. The deadline has now passed and winners will be announced in the New Year.
Cambridge Admissions Office invites you to enter its annual University-wide photography competition entitled ‘Cambridge Student Life: More than just punting?’
We’re looking for images that illustrate all of the different aspects of student life at Cambridge, for example what it’s like to live in a College, the clubs and societies and/or other social activities you’re involved in, or it could be something else entirely that you feel depicts life as an undergraduate at the University. Entries could show elements of day-to-day life or capture particular events or occasions. The brief is deliberately wide to offer scope for originality and creativity, and to be open to personal interpretation.
Submitted entries may be used to provide a ‘student’s eye view’ of the undergraduate experience for prospective applicants, and could feature in the University’s printed publications and online presence, as well as in external publications about the University. Some entries will also be used in an exhibition at the Cambridge Open Days in July 2012.
Prizes
First prize: £100 of vouchers from your choice of Jessops, Waterstones or John Lewis; and the opportunity to perfect your skills during a one-on-one masterclass with a professional photographer.
Runners up: two prizes of £100 of vouchers from your choice of Jessops, Waterstones, or John Lewis.
Simply entering: chance to see your photo in print!
Deadline
Entries must be submitted by FRIDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2011.
Who can enter?
Any undergraduate students currently studying at the University of Cambridge.
How to submit entries
- Ensure that you have read and understood the competition rules and guidelines (below).
- Complete the online entry submission form (now closed)
There’s no limit to the number of photographs you may submit. However, each photograph must be accompanied by its own submission form. Photographs entered in previous Cambridge Admissions Office photography competitions cannot be resubmitted.
Rules
- The competition is open to all current undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge.
- Entries must be submitted by completing the online application form and emailing a high resolution copy of the image to photocomp@cao.cam.ac.uk by 25 November 2011.
- Each photograph may only be entered once and must be accompanied by a submission form with all sections completed and the declaration ticked.
- Images must be high resolution – at least 300dpi – and submitted as jpeg, tiff or eps files. Each image file name must match the photograph title given on the accompanying submission form.
- Images entered in previous Cambridge Admissions Office photography competitions cannot be resubmitted.
- Entries must be the photographer’s own work.
Guidelines
- We’re not looking for a particular type of image or subject but for photographs that show or represent what student life is like at/in Cambridge.
- There’s no limit to the number of photographs you may submit but each picture may only be entered once and must be accompanied by a separate submission form.
- Please be considerate when taking photographs, both of anyone who may be disrupted by the photography and of anyone who appears in the picture(s) – you are responsible for ensuring that they understand what the picture is for, that it may be used for the University’s printed publications and websites or external publications about the University, and that they consent to be featured.
- Photographs don’t have to have been taken during your current year of study, provided they were taken since you have been a student at the University (eg a second-year student may enter a picture taken during their first year here, a third-year student may enter a picture taken during their first or second year here etc).
We look forward to receiving your entries.
If you have any questions about the competition or its rules/guidelines, please contact us at photocomp@cao.cam.ac.uk.
