Travelling to Cambridge

Cambridge is a busy city, not built with modern traffic flows in mind, and so it is best to visit the centre – where many of the University buildings and Colleges are situated – by foot.

Public transport

Cambridge is well served by public transport. Cambridge railway station is approximately a 15-minute walk from the city centre, in Station Road. There is a taxi rank and a bus stop in front of the station entrance where you can catch a shuttle bus (every ten minutes) to the bus station. Cambridge bus station is centrally located in Drummer Street; National Express coaches also stop at the bus station. The 'Uni 4' bus service runs from Madingley Road Park & Ride site through the University and College areas of West Cambridge and on to Addenbrooke's Hospital via Trumpington Street.

Arriving by car

If you are driving to Cambridge, please note that several roads in and around the city centre have restricted access and are open only to buses and taxis or at particular times of the day. These routes are protected by rising bollards, and you are advised to take note of all warning road signs to avoid encountering them. We strongly recommend visitors arriving by car use the excellent Park & Ride services into the city centre. Parking is free, buses leave every ten minutes and a return bus ticket into town costs £2.

Disabled access

Disabled parking is available throughout the city's car parks and streets. A list of these is available by contacting the Tourist Information Centre (Tel: 01223 457581) or from their following webpage:

University maps are available showing access facilties for disabled visitors to the New Museums, Downing, and Sidgwick sites:
