Murray Edwards College was formerly known as New Hall.

Most people I've met who have come to visit Murray Edwards College have remarked on its very open, friendly atmosphere. That is exactly what we have. That, plus the great quality of academic tutors that Murray Edwards provides, makes it one of the best Colleges in Cambridge to study at. Jordan

Murray Edwards College (formerly New Hall) is a modern, friendly and informal College with a lively, diverse and successful community of students.

The College was established as New Hall to enable more young women to study at Cambridge. Now, as Murray Edwards College we offer exciting opportunities to able and forward-thinking students. The College’s positive ethos is reflected within student life: you can invite male friends at any time, walk on the grass, and pick herbs and flowers from the gardens. Our students actively participate in shaping how the College works and are involved in the wider University through social activities, drama, sports, journalism and politics.

Our buildings are light and spacious, set in colourful informal grounds. At their heart is the Dome giving the College its unique skyline. The gardens and Dome provide attractive venues for student events popular across the University. Food is good, and in response to student feedback we now provide a salad bar, Saturday brunch and informal breakfasts. More than 40 per cent of our bedrooms are en suite, and many others have been recently and comfortably refurbished. Creative students can use the art room and dark room, while for the more energetic there is a gym, squash and tennis court, and boathouse. We also have a worldclass collection of contemporary art and an active interest in environmental issues, reflected in a series of public lectures and within the management of the gardens.

The College has excellent study facilities, with wi-fi in public areas, a 24-hour library and a large IT suite. An exceptionally committed Fellowship helps students to achieve the high academic standards for which Cambridge is famous. Your involvement in the mixed teaching in the departments is complemented by the very particular opportunities offered to women through this College.

Our students arrange a highly popular overnight stay in College for offer holders in Spring; an early opportunity to experience College life and make contacts. Once studying here, students are offered professional help in identifying career opportunities, with a range of internships available to College members and a careers guidance programme.

Students who visit Murray Edwards College often tell us that it has a special character. Come and see us for yourself, you will be very welcome.
