Web templates for Departments
Introduction
The new web page design for the central University web sites (www.cam.ac.uk and www.admin.cam.ac.uk) was launched in June 2008 alongside templates for University stationery, publications and other communications materials. The design was intended to provide the elements necessary for a useful information structure and an interface with good usability and accessibility, as well as a new appearance.
The templates for use on the central pages were not designed with departments in mind, and have been adapted to give a range of styles for a home page, and a selection of different page layouts for secondary web pages. Some of the components, for example the rss news block, tabbed site navigation, and quicklinks, may be dropped in to the templates in the correct position, but here may be shown in just one of the variants. There is also a palette of colours that is available to you, with a set of stylesheets pre-prepared for your use - further colour palettes could be organised for you through Barney Brown in Communications Services (email: ucam-webliaison@lists.cam.ac.uk).
Note: If you wish to use the templates supplied here, do not change the global elements. Should you wish to change or add elements, please consult to see if we can generate an alternative for you and add it to the range available for others.

Personal use
These templates are intended for use by Departments or other institutions. They should not be used for personal web pages and personal web pages must not give the impression that the material is published with the official sanction of the University, a College or some other institution.
Downloadable files
The latest small changes to these templates, stylesheets and guidelines are now available (see below). A download of the pdf of the guidelines is available without downloading the pack. The origin of the project is described elsewhere (http://www.cam.ac.uk/about/webreview/).
- Separate updates to Version 3 of webtemplates with updated guidelines included - zipped archive: overwrite pre-existing styelsheets with the same names, plus some additional files and adjusted templates [don't worry if you see a MACOSX file when you unpack this, you don't need it and it's just an anomaly of creating the archive on a Mac]
- Version 4 of webtemplates with all updates integrated and updated guidelines included, zipped archive [don't worry if you see a MACOSX file when you unpack this, you don't need it and it's just an anomaly of creating the archive on a Mac]
- Updated guidelines separately, pdf
- Detailed notes of the changes from v3 to v4 of all items in the pack, pdf
The details of the old web page templates and downloadable zip file are still available. For information, please contact hvs1001@cam.ac.uk
